Terms

This documentation has been formed to provide a basic lay out to state overall procedures and expectations of the dance school during term time, summer schools, dance shows, exam days and in the case of bad weather i.e. snow, and or illness / lack of attendance. I’m hoping it will be used as an immediate reference to answer any questions that arise, with emails and or phone calls to follow if questions have not been answered.
Please take time to familiarise yourself with this document and keep it for a future means of reference.

A quick note: please can everyone return their invoices (fully completed) with attached payment every term. I realise this is a bit of a hassle but it acts as my database for you, and as my invoices for my accounts …. And more importantly for the taxman, so thank you in advance for your cooperation!

General term time class expectations

  • Students should arrive promptly and be warm and ready to start dancing by the start time of their class. All teachers teach back-to-back classes so cannot be responsible for getting students ready on time.
  • Each class whether it’s Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz or Street Dance has a set uniform list. It is essential all students are correctly equipped for both their safety and for the teachers to be-able to check students are dancing correctly and safely, so they don’t injure themselves or others around them.
  • The school tracksuit.. By now most students do have a tracksuit, which is ideal to wear over leotards, tights and set uniform for an easy quick change and to keep your muscles warm. The dance studios are all heated, but during the colder months tracksuits may be worn for the warm up but removed immediately after. The tracksuit unites us as a school and is an expected part of the dance school uniform.
  • Hair for ballet should be IN A BUN; modern, jazz and tap students need to have hair neatly tied up and off the face. Jewellery may NOT be worn during any classes; when dancing around it’s too much of a risk both to the students and peers.
  • Our main focus is to ensure students are enjoying, developing and improving within their chosen dance techniques. The level of discipline will be controlled and monitored by teachers and bad behaviour/ disrespect to teachers and/or peers will not be tolerated.
  • The teachers will use a ‘hands on’ approach during the teaching of syllabus/ free classes. Within such a specialised subject as dance we feel the students will often need to be physically adjusted into the correct position in order to achieve the desired position, line and overall outcome suitable for the dance steps being taught.

Class cancellations

A main issue that has crept up has obviously been the horrendous snow conditions in the past and the inability to keep classes running during this time.
When studios are booked they are ‘block booked’ at the beginning of every term meaning that all is paid in advance. If for any reason the weather is too bad, i.e. the snow (even though this is out of my control and forcing me to cancel classes) the studio booking companies are putting it down as ‘an act of god’ and will not refund/ replace missed studio bookings, therefore making it financially impossible for me to replace these classes.
I understand that this will come as an annoyance to many of you, including myself, but there is no way of controlling the weather, and fingers crossed it will only be on very rare conditions that cancelling the classes for bad snow will have to occur. I hope you can appreciate this situation and that the ‘white fluffy stuff’ will stay at bay!

HOWEVER: If classes are cancelled due to illness, or any other reason relating directly to the teacher then of course these classes will be replaced. They will either be added on at the end of term, or, if this is not possible then they will be put on during the holidays.  Again, if studios are shut due to a fault of the studio itself and they will replace our missed booked session, then again these too will be replaced.

Summer schools, Dance Shows, and Exam days

  • Summer schools are open to all current, prospective and friends of students. Places do get booked up so please sign up early to avoid disappointment. They generally run the 2nd week of August, dates will be confirmed by Easter.
  • Dance shows- this is a fantastic and enjoyable experience for all involved and is an essential part of developing performance skills and overall confidence.
  • Exams days- these follow a formal set procedure and students will not be entered unless they are capable of succeeding and are well prepared. Exam rehearsals are essential and you must try to get your children to the set rehearsal dates. The timetable is very packed and its hard work booking studio space and times so I appreciate your cooperation in advance for attending the rehearsals.
  • For summer schools, dance shows and exam days, photos and videos may be taken for advertisement purposes … if you have any objection with this please contact me individually.

Leaving us

We fully understand that dance classes are not for everyone, and that occasionally students might choose to leave us and/or go and try new things. If this is the case then we do expect a full terms written notice in order to remove your child from our registers and cancel further payments for the future dance terms. If we are not alerted to students leaving us then we cannot offer places to other students that might have been waiting for places.
Thank you for your co-operation with this.

If any problems or queries pop up throughout the term, I hope this document can help, for anything further please ask either myself, Miss Pippa or Miss Emma, and as always you are welcome to email me on georgina@gwdanceacademy.co.uk
Email is the best way of contacting me and I will ensure to respond to you as soon as I can.

If anyone has any issues with any of the points stated above then I can discuss these on an individual basis. By signing up, paying your fees and bringing your children to our classes we have a mutual understanding that all the terms and conditions mentioned above are accepted and students will be able to apply with our regulations.

Dance Parties

All our dance parties are based on popular characters but are not officially affiliated with Disney in any way.

I hope we all have a successful and enjoyable dancing year,

Georgina
